Three Things Every Website Should Be

Three Things Every Website Should Be

Not every website is made the same. Some websites are for small businesses. Other websites are personal blogs. Other websites are used for large corporations. Every website is different, and yet there are three things that every website should be: Every website should be responsive across all platforms, optimized for search engines, and customized to present you well to the world.

Every Website Should Be Responsive

Technology has developed rapidly in the past twenty years. Years ago, everyone used to search the internet with those large, clunky box-shaped desktop computers. Now, screens are of all different shapes and sizes. There are large widescreen monitors, there are small laptop monitors, and there are mobile devices such as tablets and smart phones. The large screens and the laptop monitors both use the horizontal landscape format, but the smartphones use a vertical view of the website.

Not only are there different designs, but also the use of mobile phones has increased dramatically. Web browsing done via mobile phones is more than half of all web-browsing. This statistic means that, if your site is not designed for mobile phones, then you are missing out on more than half of your website’s visitors. In fact, because web browsing is more than 50% from mobile phones, all websites that Moody Web Design builds are built with a mobile-first approach. By that, we mean that we make sure the site is first designed for mobile devices and only later do we come back to make sure that it works well on a desktop or laptop also.

Every Website Should Be Optimized for Search Engines

Search engine optimization used to be a game that people played. But, thanks to Google and other large search engines, those who played that “black hat” game have been expelled from the running. If you want to do well on Google and the major search engines, you now have to have good content on your website.

However, at the end of the day, the robots that Google and the other search engines send out are still robots. They cannot read content the same way that humans do. So, the content must be there, and it must be good content. But, the code to make pages canonical, the use of absolute links over relative links, and the filling in of alternative text for images must all be done to tell the search engine robots what your content is. The easier you can show that information to the robots, the more easily they can index your site, and the more likely your website will be found when users search for the type of content that your site covers.

At Moody Web Design, we make sure that we cover the bases. We only perform “white hat” search engine optimization, but we can help you format your website so that search engines like Google will find it easy to index your site.

Every Website Should Be Customized to Represent You

Your website is most likely the first impression that your customers or your audience will get of you. It needs to present who you are, and it needs to fit your personality or your business’s personality. And it needs to present you in a good light. If the website looks strange or doesn’t work properly on all screens, then you will look like you don’t know what you are doing. But more than that, the website needs to be poised to fulfill the purpose you have set out for it: it needs to reach your audience with your message. It should do that both in the words it uses as well as in the layout of the page. What fonts will your site use? What colors will it use? How many pages will be in the navigation bar? What should be the first thing that your visitors see above the fold on your website? Not everything hangs on these questions, but, if these questions can be answered with your website’s purpose in mind, then the entire site from its color scheme to its layout to its typography can represent a consistent and stylish look — a look that fits who you are or who your business is.

At Moody Web Design we make sure that all of our websites have these three things in them: they must be responsive across all devices. They must be easily indexed by search engines. And they must represent the uniqueness about you.
